Free download - the full lab report

I lab-tested 7 of the UK's best-selling protein powders. Here's what I found.

Bought at retail. Sent to three accredited labs with the manufacturer's seal documented intact - protein content, amino acids, and heavy metals. The full report is free. Some of these brands will surprise you.

The 7 brands tested

// 5 whey proteins + 2 non-whey (1 vegan blend, 1 soy/milk blend). One sealed batch each, June–July 2026.

What the labs found

Five things the labels don't tell you

  1. FINDING 01

    The good news first

Every batch was authentic - no amino spiking, no collagen cutting, and all heavy metals within UK/EU limits. The industry's dirtiest tricks weren't in these tubs.

  2. FINDING 02

    But the labels? Mixed.

Measured protein ranged from meeting the claim… to landing ~14% under it. Three of the seven fell 10%+ short of the number printed on the tub.

  3. FINDING 03

    "Best" ≠ "best value"

The #1 quality whey is not the cheapest - and the best value per gram of real, measured protein isn't the brand most people would guess.

  4. FINDING 04

    Leucine is the great divider

Whey delivered roughly 2–3× the leucine per serving of the plant options - the amino acid most tied to muscle-protein synthesis.

  5. FINDING 05

    Timing beats brand loyalty

Prices swing month to month - some tubs vary by nearly £20/kg across the year. The report includes "good buy below" price thresholds.
